Efforts are underway in Prayagraj to protect cattle from lumpy skin disease through vaccination and awareness campaigns. The disease has affected 160 villages, but cases have reduced significantly. So far, 4.72 lakh vaccine doses have been administered to 1.76 lakh bovines in the district. Only 158 bovines are currently infected, with six deaths recorded. Vaccination teams are actively working to prevent further spread, and inter-district transport of cattle has been banned.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has warned action against owners of wandering cattle ahead of the Ganesh festival to prevent traffic disruptions and public nuisance. Owners will be fined under the law, and stray animals will be seized until the end of the festival. Citizens can report complaints to the PMC. The presence of stray cattle on the roads has led to accidents in the past, including fatalities.
