State allocates 89 crore to redevelop Charni Road Women’s Hostel

Charni Road hostel rape: Foreign report links guard to rape

According to the police, they had taken samples from the victim’s and the suspect’s body as well as clothes and sent them for forensic analysis. The forensic report received on Saturday revealed that the foreign DNA found on the body and clothes of the victim matched with Kanojia, who died by suicide after committing the crime, a police officer said

The forensic experts had collected nails and clothes from the 18-year-old body, the police officer said, adding, “After we came to know that Kanojia jumped in front of a train on the same day, the forensic experts collected samples from his bones.” (HT PHOTO)

Savitribai Phule girls’ hostel occupants to be relocated to SRA tower in Bandra

The Savitribai Phule girls' hostel in Mumbai will be closed for redevelopment and its 450 occupants relocated to an SRA tower in Bandra, according to a report by the hostel warden. Four students will share each of the tower's 128 rooms, while one floor will be used for the hostel office, warden's residence, gym and computer room. Student activist Amar Ekad, who was on a hunger strike over the issue, welcomed the report and called on the government to provide a new hostel for 1,000 students.

Drunk cabbie arrested for running over priest

A taxi driver in Mumbai was arrested for drunk driving and running over a senior citizen, a priest, who later died of his injuries. The driver has been sent to police custody.
