Bihar requests 13.5 lakh new units under PMAY-G after clearing backlog

Bihar's RDD has completed 98.94% of PMAY-G units and requested 13.5 lakh more for homeless families. They've built 36.64 lakh units since 2016, spending ₹45049.17 crore.

Make gram chaupals more powerful: Maurya to officials

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya reviewed the working of the rural development department in a high-level meeting held in his camp office at 7- Kalidas Marg on Friday. The reservation rules in recruitment of staff by the department should be implemented strictly. A list of all vacant posts should be released, he said.

Maurya told the officers to visit the field to review the quality of work and monitor the progress of the projects launched by the department. (HT FILE)

UP Budget: Rural development, panchayati raj get lion’s share

Under the Vidhan Mandal Kshetra Vikas Yojana, a provision of ₹2,520 crore (including GST) is proposed for development works in the financial year 2024-25, while ₹5,060 crore has been proposed for the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

42% rural children in 14-18 age group can't read easy sentences in English

The annual report published by the Pratham Foundation also found that more than half of the students in the 14-18 age group struggle with division problems.

Forty-two per cent of children in the age group of 14 to 18 years in rural India cannot read easy sentences in English, while more than half of them struggle with simple division problems, according to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023 released on Wednesday.
