Teesta Setalvad given interim bail by top court

The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to social activist Teesta Setalvad and directed her release by Saturday on the condition that she surrender her passport and cooperate with the investigation into the case lodged against her by Gujarat police accusing her of falsifying evidence in the 2002 riots cases.

In its affidavit in the Ahmedabad civil sessions court on Friday, challenging Setalvad’s bail plea, the SIT cited statements of a witness and said the conspiracy was carried out at the behest of late Congress leader Ahmed Patel.

The SIT said Teesta Setalvad received <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>30 lakh from Ahmed Patel to destabilise the then Gujarat government.

Teesta, Sreekumar remanded in judicial custody for 14 days

India rejects criticism by UN rights agency over arrest of Teesta

The UN human rights agency had said in its tweet: “We are very concerned by the arrest and detention of #WHRD @TeestaSetalvad and two ex police officers and call for their immediate release. They must not be persecuted for their activism and solidarity with the victims of the 2002 #GujaratRiots.”

Gujarat ATS detains Teesta Setalvad, day after SC ruling on 2002 riots

The Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad reached activist Teesta Setalvad's house in Mumbai on Saturday in connection with a foreign fund case. Setalvad's lawyer Vijay Hiremath claimed police barged into her house and  assaulted her.
