After starring as Ranbir Kapoor’s best friend in Ayan Mukerji’s Wake Up Sid, and playing a parallel lead role in Kunal Roy Kapoor’s The President Is Coming, Namit Das has now turned host for Channel [V]’s forthcoming show, Axe Your Ex.

Das, who is also a regular on the theatre circuit and has done TV shows earlier, doesn’t feel it’s a step backward. “If I go by convention, there are lots of things I shouldn’t have done in life, including acting,” he smiles. “I’m the kind of person who takes up anything that comes to me. If it goes well, I thank god. If it doesn’t go well, I blame him!”

The actor says that it was the chance of being able to express himself, that made him take up the show. “I’m a people’s person,” he says.

People’e Person
“I felt that this show was a super opportunity for me to interact with new people, share my point of view, listen to theirs, and of course, project myself. Plus, [V] is a pretty cool channel.”

On the show, Das will help people “take revenge” against their ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend, in pulling crazy pranks on them. Das laughs when asked if it’s a giant coincidence that his character in Wake Up Sid, would love to be on the show – since he got dumped unceremoniously.

“That’s a coincidence for sure,” he laughs. “I’m nothing like my character in Wake Up Sid. He was meek and sober, while I’m more forceful and Punjabi in nature.”

But Das does go on to reveal how he, in his “own little way” went about taking revenge on one of his ex-girlfriends, when he got dumped in real life.

Taking Revenge
“The guy she left me for ditched her, so I took her out, and while she was crying, I reminded her how I felt the same way when she had ditched me! I felt so happy,” he chuckles.

“To be frank, some of my relationships have ended very badly, and I’ve always wanted to take revenge but not known how. This show teaches that, and that’s’ what attracted me.”

But Das, who will next be seen in Pradeep Sarkar’s Lafange Parinday with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deven Khote’s Phillum City with John Abraham, asserts that the pranks on the show are light-hearted. “I still have a feeling that I may get beaten up though!” he jokes

Axe Your Ex is a new show that will air on Channel [V] every Friday at 7 pm. It’s a show where people pull pranks on their exes.
