China issues ‘all-out warning’ to Japan, PM Takaichi’s Taiwan remark sparks fury in Beijing | watch

China has issued a strong warning to Japan after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan an “existential threat.” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian accused Japan of “provocation” and warned Tokyo to “bear all consequences” if it intervenes militarily in the Taiwan Strait. Lin also questioned whether Takaichi intends to “repeat the mistakes of militarism,” urging Japan to “cease playing with fire.” The remarks come after Takaichi met a Taiwanese representative and amid renewed regional tension. Lin also criticised the G7 for “hyping the China threat” and reiterated Beijing’s stance on the One-China principle.
