'EU paid Russia €12000000000 monthly…': Ursula reveals last-minute deal for import ban on…|Ukraine

The EU has announced a provisional deal to completely phase out Russian gas by 2027, with Ursula von der Leyen calling it the start of full European energy independence. The plan halts Russian gas imports by 2026 and ends long term contracts by late 2027. Hungary and Slovakia are threatening legal action, saying Brussels used a trade vote to avoid unanimous approval. Von der Leyen noted payments to Russia fell from 12 billion euros a month to 1.5 billion. EU officials called the move historic, while the IEA warned against relying on any single energy supplier. Slovakia and Hungary receive oil via Druzhba.
