Boost for armed forces, no import duty on certain defence equipment

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2019. In her maiden speech she said, “Defence has an immediate requirement of modernisation and upgradation. This is a national priority. For this purpose, imports of defence equipment that are not being manufactured in India are being exempted from the basic customs duty.
