‘Family never demanded Bharat Ratna’: Savarkar’s grandson

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's grandson Ranjit Savarkar said the family never demanded Bharat Ratna. Ranjit said it will be a matter of pride for the freedom fighters if the country decides to give him the honour. BJP had on several occasions backed Savarkar's contribution towards the freedom struggle. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah in one of his speeches had said that Savarkar was the one to name 1857 rebellion as the first struggle for independence.
