BJP on Sunday vowed to stop a controversial project to carve a shipping channel in seas off India's south coast, if voted to power. Religious groups say that the project will destroy a mythical bridge of sand made by Hindu god, Lord Ram. Meanwhile, in a move that could boost the BJP's prospects in Darjeeling, an ethnic group-Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, fighting for separate statehood, pledged support to the BJP.
