India has lived up to Jawaharlal Nehru's prediction that independence must be "an opening of opportunity, to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us." It is the largest democracy in the world. One in every six people on this planet is an Indian citizen, many of them are young and determined to succeed. It plays a leading role in the many UN committees.
