Drought hits saffron production in Kashmir

The successive droughts in Kashmir for five years have badly hit the production of highly prized spice saffron. According to saffron growers in the state, they have produced 50 per cent less than the previous year. With the production of the saffron going down and its demand ever growing, the price of saffron has touched an all time high. Confirming downfall in the production due to scanty rainfalls, the agriculture department is not much worried.
