Heavy rain and floods continued to create havoc in Lakhimpur district of Assam state on Saturday. Around 200 villages and vast tracts of agricultural land in Lakhimpur were submerged as a 100 meter-long-Matmora embankment was washed away by water from Brahamputra River. Personnel of the National Disaster Rescue Force reached the area to rescue the affected people. Locals said they were short of essential supplies.
