Gujarat makes voting a must in local polls

Gujarat government on Saturday passed the Gujarat Local Authorities Laws Bill, 2009 in the Assembly. The Bill seeks to make voting compulsory in elections to local self-government bodies such as municipal corporations and panchayats. State Chief Minister Narendra Modi hailed the bill, saying the law would reduce the influence of black money in elections.
