Two days after the Supreme Court upheld its order quashing land acquisition in Greater Noida, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday stayed land acquisition by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Corporation (UPSIDC) in 200 villages in Bulandshaher district of the state. The order came after a petition was moved by around 200 farmers, who were affected by a government acquisition order of 2000. Questioning the use of urgency clause of the land acquisition act, a division bench of the Court directed the state government and also the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) to maintain status quo on the land which was acquired for industrialization.
