In a major blow to the freedom of the press, militant factions have issued fresh threats to media houses in Imphal, warning them of dire consequences if their demands were not met. Seeking to resolve the simmering row, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) on Sunday discussed the issue at a special general body meeting, which was attended by all scribes operating in the strife torn region. Members of the union unequivocally condemned the militant diktats, saying that obstructing scribes from their work was an abuse to the flow of information in a democracy.
