Muslim woman solemnises a marriage

A Muslim woman created history by becoming the first woman to act as a 'qazi' and solemnize a 'nikah'. Planning Commission member and an expert on Islamic studies, Sayeda Hamid performed the nikah of Imran Naeem, PhD scholar from AMU, and Naesh Hasan, founder of Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan in Lucknow. Some religious leaders have expressed unhappiness over this marriage and opposed the solemnizing of the marriage by a woman.
