Singur Land Row: SC stays Calcutta HC's verdict

In a major relief to the West Bengal government, the Supreme Court today stayed the Calcutta High Court's order on the 2006 land acquisition for the industry near Singur. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, welcomed the verdict, saying that she wanted to return 400 acres of land that was taken away forcefully from the poor farmers.
