Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, marking his first visit to India in seven years. Xi is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today on the sidelines of the summit. The Modi-Xi meeting is being closely watched as India and China seek to consolidate a cautious improvement in bilateral ties following years of tensions along the Line of Actual Control. The two leaders are expected to discuss the border issue, economic and trade ties and broader bilateral relations. Xi’s visit comes after previous meetings with Modi in Kazan and Tianjin and is the latest high-level engagement between the two countries. India is hosting the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, bringing together leaders of the expanded 11-member grouping.
