South Africa is witnessing record Covid cases as the Omicron variant fuels the infections. On Sunday, South Africa recorded its daily highest infection surge with 37,875 Covid cases. The current wave of Covid infections is the fourth that South Africa is witnessing since the pandemic broke out in 2020. The previous highest number of daily infections in South Africa stood at 26,485 during the third wave in July this year. There has been a dramatic surge in South Africa's Covid cases where the Omicron variant was detected last November. In early November, South Africa was seeing an average of 200 new cases per day but the numbers rose significantly in mid-November. Since December 1st week, new confirmed cases started to double and triple at an alarming rate in South Africa. Watch the full video for more details.
