Public-sector bank clerk Sumit Gupta travelled relentlessly for 12 weeks, from September to December 2021, to set a new world record for longest journey by scheduled public transport in a single country. As he made his way across India by bus and train, in a race to hit his target, he ate just dal and roti to make sure he didn’t fall ill, stopped to get signatures from witnesses and officials at each halt.
