Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer has issued verification notices to nearly 33 lakh voters as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with several prominent names appearing on the list. Among those flagged are Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and members of his family, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Election Commissioner S S Sandhu, BJP veteran L K Advani, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and former Union minister Kapil Sibal. The exercise has raised questions about the verification burden on ordinary voters, particularly those who may have difficulty producing supporting documents. Officials maintain that no voter’s name can be removed without due process, including an opportunity for a hearing and an appealable order.
