Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in an interview that the war in Ukraine could have already ended if European leaders had not undermined former US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts. He argued that Hungary has faced sustained political attacks within the EU for pushing peace talks and a ceasefire from the start of the conflict, while accusing other European states of prolonging the war and hiding their continued purchases of Russian energy. Szijjarto also warned that plans to use frozen Russian assets would severely damage trust in Europe’s investment climate. His remarks come amid ongoing US Russia and US Ukraine discussions on a Trump backed peace proposal.
