Two deadly incidents in the span of less than a week have brought Delhi's crumbling residential infrastructure into the spotlight. First a building collapse in Saidulajab, and then a fire in Hauz Rani have exposed the Delhi Development Authority's failure in regulating unauthorised colonies which have burgeoned in the absence of affordable housing in the national capital. Part 1 of Hindustan Times' investigation looks into the DDA's prescribed role, and its lapses which have made many parts of the national capital unsafe for residents.
