The strict enforcement of a one-child policy introduced in the 1970s has led to China staring at a greying population, endangering its economic prowess. In the year 2050, the median population age in China is projected to be 53 years, while for India it is likely to be 38 years. A larger share of elderly people in the population will mean more pressure for welfare on the smaller younger population. It will also reduce demand in the economy. With this dire situation in mind, the Xi Jinping government has brought in a three-child policy, six years after the one-child policy was diluted to two. Watch the full video for more.
