Silent handshake? Thailand's minister breaks silence on truce with Cambodia after weeks of clashes

Thailand and Cambodia have signed a new agreement to implement a ceasefire aimed at ending weeks of armed clashes along their disputed border. The ceasefire took effect at noon local time and includes provisions barring further military movements and violations of airspace. Thailand, which had carried out airstrikes during the conflict, agreed to repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers after the ceasefire holds for 72 hours. The deal reinforces earlier agreements brokered by Malaysia with backing from U.S. President Donald Trump, following renewed fighting that escalated in early December despite previous truces.
