After a one-year delay owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dubai Expo 2020 kicked off on Thursday with a star-studded and flashy opening ceremony. The expo site opened its doors to visitors on Friday and is expecting to welcome around 25 million visitors over the course of six months. The expo that was delayed for a year due to the pandemic will see participation from around 190 countries. The Expo is one of the world’s first global events in the pandemic world, following an Olympics this summer in Japan that took place without spectators. However, unlike Tokyo, the UAE has one of the world’s highest vaccination rates per capita and has seen its daily case numbers drop to their lowest levels in over a year.
