Xi Jinping's new formula to beat American jets? China turns Y-20 into a multi-mission war platform

China is rapidly expanding the Y-20 family beyond strategic airlift, adding tanker and airborne control roles to its heavy transport fleet. From delivering FK-3 air-defence systems to Serbia to supporting long-range operations, the Y-20 gives the PLA greater flexibility to move forces, equipment and fuel across the Western Pacific. With the domestic WS-20 engine powering newer variants, Beijing is building a more versatile air-power backbone.
