Watch | NASA astronauts to eat first space-grown vegetables

NASA astronauts are preparing to sample the "Outredgeous" lettuce grown as part of the space agency's plant experiment 'Veg-01'. The Vegetable Production System (Veggie) is a deployable plant growth unit capable of producing salad-type crops to provide the crew with a nutritious and safe source of fresh food. Veg-01 forms a critical part of NASA's Journey to Mars, enabling crew to grow and eat their own food on long-duration exploration missions. The lettuce was grown using rooting "pillows", containing seeds — which are activated, watered and cared for by astronauts. Watch the video to get a glimpse of this exciting new phenomena.
