Brazil dam disaster toll rises to 9 dead, nearly 300 missing

The toll in a dam collapse at a mine in southeast Brazil rose to nine dead and some 300 missing, local firefighters said early Saturday, doubling the number of missing people.

The earlier toll after a torrent of mud broke through the disused dam Friday at the iron-ore mine owned by Brazilian mining giant Vale in Minas Gerias state was seven dead and 150 missing.
