A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) struck Turkey. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the town of Gaziantep, according to a report from GFZ Helmholtz Centre Potsdam.

The earthquake was about 30 kilometers west northwest of Gaziantep, and 114 kilometers north-northwest of Aleppo, Syria, according to EMSC-CSEM.
In videos shared widely on social media, buildings were seen shaking as the earthquake jolted Turkey.
Strong aftershocks were also felt in central Turkey, where another earthquake of 6.7 magnitude struck at a depth of 9.9 kilometers after 11 minutes of the first quake, CNN reported.
