Ava Raine, the daughter of The Rock, sparked an uproar for indirectly denouncing Charlie Kirk after his murder.
Kirk, a conservative pundit, was shot and killed Wednesday when he was speaking at a Utah Valley University event.
Raine, a professional wrestler for the WWE, responded to the murder of Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, on social media.
Ava Raine's Instagram story draws backlash
Taking to X, she shared a post from comedian Gianmarco Soresi on her own Instagram story, but she did not specifically name Kirk. “If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind things when you're alive,” the post stated.
Later, the 24-year-old reaffirmed her endorsement for the post on X, saying: “and I'll stand behind this. be kind, now more than ever.”
Netizens blast ‘nepo kid’ Ava Raine
Meanwhile, several WWE fans got offended by Raine's post, with one calling for her resignation and others slamming her for being a “nepo” kid. “You need to be fired,” one person said.
“'Hey @TripleH and @WWE do you want this representing the younger part of the company [just wondering]?” another wrote.
“Disappointed and disgusted,” a third user commented.
“You're an absolute moron. I hope you get canned,” a fourth stated.
Raine is not the first sports figure to speak out against MAGA supporter Kirk after his passing.
Charlie Rock, the Carolina Panthers' now-former communications coordinator, was let go after making fun of Kirk's killing on social media.
Gerald Bourguet, the ALLCITY Network's beat reporter for the Phoenix Suns, also received criticism for calling Kirk a “evil man.”
“Political differences' are not the same thing as spewing hateful rhetoric on a daily basis, and refusing to mourn a life devoted to that cause is not the same thing as celebrating gun violence,” he wrote. “Just so we're 100% clear on that.”
