Hindustan Times

How about a visit to Jama Masjid for the structural marvel it is, and not for Karim’s or al-Jawahar’s delicious kebabs? From the time it was built, Jama Masjid, has presented a fascinating document on Indo-Islamic architecture, bearing a silent testimony to significant historical events. Whether it was our first struggle for independence in 1857, the 1947 partition, or the surge of economic energy since, Jama Masjid has withstood it all. Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation presents its inaugural heritage walk, which will also cover the dargahs of Sufi Sarmad Shahid and Sufi Hare Bhare Shah.
January 8, 9:30am-10:30am, Jama Masjid, call 9910832238 for details

When in Rome...

Join the hunt as Sam, an American, plays detective in Rome to solve a series of brutal killings. L’uccello Dalle Piume Cristallo or The Bird With The Crystal Plumage promises to be a real thriller as writer-by-profession Sam witnesses an attempted murder, the latest in attacks by a serial killer. He attempts to rescue the victim but is forced to watch as the woman is nearly killed. Although the victim survives, the police fail to determine the attacker’s identity. Being the only eyewitness, Sam decides to look into the matter, and along the line discovers several clues which point in only one direction. What’s that? Watch the film to find out. Jan 7, 2pm and 4pm, Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, 50-E Chandragupta Marg, Chanakyapuri, 26871901

Jamming for a cause

Add a cause to a musical performance and watch it become a different experience. Catch live performances by Half Step Down, a rock ‘n’ roll band, and B.L.O.T., an audiovisual collective while helping Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan, an NGO working against ongoing exploitation and marginalisation of the homeless in Delhi. All money collected at the gate would be donated to the NGO. The standard entry passes are priced at Rs 250, but you can of course pay more to support a noble cause.
