The Congress has alleged that Ashwini Sharma, arrested for raping and molesting at least four speech and hearing impaired tribal girls who lived in a hostel run by him, had political patronage and hence was able to carry on his nefarious activities with impunity.
Congress State media in-charge Shobha Oza released a YouTube video which shows chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan blessing and patting Sharma on his back at a fund raiser programme organized in Bhopal for Uttarkhand floods of 2013.
Oza said, “The way the chief minister is blessing and patting him, it is apparent that he knows Sharma very well. Many ministers are also close to him, but he has deleted many of his pictures from Facebook account.”
She said that it is due to this state patronage that Congress president Kamal Nath has demanded a CBI probe into the matter as they feel that special investigation team set up for this purpose won’t be able to do justice in the case.
BJP state spokesperson Rajneesh Agrawal reacting to the Congress charges said, “Hundreds shake hand with the chief minister every day and chief minister pats and blesses numerous people in the course of the day. The chief minister has never compromised with crime or given protection to anyone guilty. These allegations are below the belt tactics of the Congress. Let them take these allegations to the people, they will give a befitting reply.”
Meanwhile the special investigation team has seized the mobile phones used by Sharma and have found large number of porn clips and nude pictures of women, which he allegedly used to show to the inmates. Sources said that they are probing whether he has taken advantage of other girls and if he was given protection by the officials of the social justice department, who turned a blind eye to the wrong doings.
IG Bhopal Jaideep Prasad said that if the investigation find that social justice department officials did not act on the complaints, action would be taken against them. “No one will be spared,” the IG said.
