Maybe it was not just fans but even celebrities who wanted to see Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli get married. Ever since the news of the couple’s wedding broke out on Monday, actors, sports stars and more flocked to social media to share their wishes.

The actor and the cricketer got married in a resort in Tuscany, Italy in a secret ceremony, away from the media glare. They shared the happy news with their fans through social media posts on Monday evening. “Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey,” Anushka wrote on Instagram.

Shah Rukh Khan wished the happy couple by calling their wedding the ‘real Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, while Priyanka Chopra ‘liked’ Anushka’s post on Instagram commented, “Congratulations you both!” Coincidentally, Anushka’s debut film opposite SRK, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, released on December 12.

Sonam Kapoor called them a ‘beautiful couple’, Amitabh Bachchan wished them ‘happiness and togetherness ever’, director Karan Johar gave them a ‘ton of love’ while Neha Dhupia attempted a pun with: “What a catch @imVkohli ... and what a shot @AnushkaSharma.”

Comedian Mallika Dua came up with the best hashtag for the couple: #DandruffNeBanaDiJodi, referring to the Clear shampoo advertisement for which they first met. Other well wishers include Sridevi, Varun Dhawan, Farhan Akshtar, Abhishek Bachchan, Shraddha Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Kapil Sharma and more. Check out their tweet:

A statement sent to journalists said the wedding had been attended by close family and a few friends as "they wished their wedding to be a very private affair". The ceremony was performed according to Hindu rituals, it added.

Their outfits were created by acclaimed Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

The statement added that the couple will host a reception in New Delhi for relatives on December 21, followed by a celebration in Mumbai on December 26 to be attended by Bollywood stars and cricketers.

Afterwards, Sharma will accompany Kohli to South Africa where he will prepare for India's forthcoming tour there which is taking place early next year. The statement added that after spending New Year's Eve together Sharma will return to Mumbai in the first week of January to resume her acting commitments.

They will live in the Worli district of Mumbai, the home of India's Hindi film industry, it said. Last year, Kohli reportedly bought a luxury, sea-view apartment in the area for Rs 340 million.
