The frenzy around FIFA final game between France and Croatia on Sunday, July 15, is only keeping football fans on their toes. Guessing who will take the world cup 2018 trophy home — France led by Hugo Lloris or Croatia led by Luka Modrić — even celebs can’t keep calm.
While some are cheering for the 1998 World Cup winner, France, there are many whose heart goes out to the underdogs, Croatia. Check out what they have to say about their favourite team and player.
The whole team play as a unit. They are fighters, but I also believe that France is very strong. Ivan Perišić, Ante Rebić, Ivan Rakitić, Luka Modrić, Mario Mandžukić are my favourite players.
I am supporting France. And my favourite player is Kylian Mbappé because he’s just 19 and his speed and his ability pass, is just electrifying. Most importantly, he was asked about the highest individual achievement for a player and he said he doesn’t care about the Ballon d’Or, he just wants to sleep with the World Cup.

The Croatia win here [in Russia] was sensational. They’re in great form and even though post Brazil, my son is looking out for a France victory, this World Cup is all about changing the order and we are rooting for the underdog. France has more interesting players no doubt but a Croatian victory will be like the ‘83 cricket World Cup for India.
I am rooting for Croatia and Luka Modric remains my favourite player.
They [Croatia] are the underdogs, and I will always root for an underdog. A country that has a population of 4.2 million, and it is the smallest country to take part in the World Cup final. They deserve to win, for their people and country. Luka Modric is a true champion. His life hasn’t been easy. His family lived as refugees for seven years, and the house he lived was burnt down. Football was his only saviour.
Croatia is my favourite team but, I don’t have a favourite player.
I’ve been supporting France since the start of this World Cup. In fact, I’ve been a fan of the team since 1998, the year they won. And my elder brother took me to Paris to celebrate. Kylian Mbappé has been a standout player at the mere age of 19, Grizou (Antoine Griezmann) has been incredible and to me [Hugo] Lloris has been one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament.
Croatia are massive underdogs and have never won before, unlike France who took the cup in 1998. Croatia has never been given such a huge platform to play and they have a population of four million and still managed to pull through. From team Croatia, I really respect Luka Modrić. He was made a refugee at the age of six and coaches said he was too weak and fragile to ever make it in football and now he’s leading team Croatia into the finals.
I was earlier supporting England, but now they are out. So, I am all for Croatia, as I want the underdogs to win. As for players, my favourites this World Cup have been Mohamed Salah (Egypt) and Kylian Mbappé.
I am all for Croatia, the underdogs, because this world cup, they seem like they have really grown and have showed us their skills throughout the tournament. I really hope they win. But the game should go into extra time and then they should win, that’ll truly be fun. I love Luka Modrić, the leader who is taking the team into the finals. He plays for Real Madrid when he isn’t playing for Croatia. His passing, the technique and that hairband that is his fashion statement, I like it all. Also, like a true leader he controls the tempo of the game and has proper vision of when to break up play and when to create.
I want France to win because the team has surpassed all expectations. Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe are the players I am rooting for. The match would be very interesting this time because of the teams.
France is taking the cup home and two players are my current favourite. Kylian Mbappé, he is already being named as the next Ronaldo /Neymar. Second is [Antoine] Griezmann because of his skills and overall performance. He has been a differentiator for many matches for his club Athletico Madrid and was recently in the news for a transfer to Barcelona to support Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Although he rejected the offer he is still considered as one of France’s best talents.
