Giselli Monteiro always had her own style, says Imtiaz Ali

A few days back, HT Café reported that Brazilian model Giselli Monteiro, who made her debut in the Hindi film industry with Imtiaz Ali’s film Love Aaj Kal, has quit Bollywood. When we asked the director about this exit, he was caught unawares.

"I have no idea. I am learning about it now that you mention it. It’s a surprise for me," says Imtiaz.

The director also tells us that he was planning on getting in touch with Giselli "one of these days".

He adds, "But now that she has gone away, there’s no point. Giselli has always had her own mizaz (style). She wanted to do certain kind of work. But I didn’t know that she was planning ongiving up everything and going back to studies."

Giselli is now studying architecture in Brazil. She told HT Café, "I have fond memories of my time in India, and I will be visiting later this year, but I do not see myself pursuing films [any longer]."

Imtiaz says, "It’s good if she wanted to go back to her studies and has managed to do that."

The director, on his part, is readying to start work on his next project starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

"The film will go on the floors in a few months. I am leaving for a recce of the film outside India now," he says.

In all likelihood, the movie will release in the first half of next year.
