The war of words came a day after Aamir Khan joined a raging debate on rising intolerance in the country, saying the spike in sectarian tensions sowed a sense of “insecurity and fear” in the society.

Reacting to Aamir Khan’s remarks on the “growing intolerance” in the country, Raveena Tandon has said that people who are not happy with Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister are saying things on intolerance. “Guess all those who did not want pm Modi to become PM,want 2 bring this govt down..sadly becoz of politics, they are shaming country ,” she tweeted on Tuesday.

After Anupam Kher, Bollywood actor and BJP MP Paresh Rawal attacked superstar Aamir Khan for saying his family thought about leaving India following a spike in the incidents of intolerance. Aamir said on Monday that a sense of “insecurity and fear” has been growing in the past six or eight months and his wife had even suggested leaving India.

Rawal took to Twitter to say that a true patriot will never leave his country, “If I believe this is my motherland then I will never talk about leaving it ....but I would if I had believed otherwise ... A true patriot will not run away n leave his motherland behind in turmoil or in troubled times (if any )...don’t escape - build it ..”

He also discussed the actor’s superhit PK, which attacks religious beliefs of the majority community. “Intolerance ! PK did rattle the belief of Hindus but Aamir dint face the wrath of Hindu or THE MAJORITY but was super hit n made crores !”

The two actors have worked in Bollywood films together, including the cult hit Andaz Apna Apna. “Aamir is a fighter so he should not leave but change the situation in the country ! jeena yahan marna yahan,” Rawal wrote.

Bollywood’s favourite loose cannon, Ram Gopal Varma, also targeted the superstar.

Varma said on Twitter that the three Muslim actors are the biggest superstars of a predominantly Hindu country, proving India is tolerant. “If Aamir,Sharuk and Salman the three biggest stars of the Hindu country “India” are Muslims, I don’t understand where intolerance is?” he wrote.

RGV said isolated incidents cannot make India intolerant, “In a predominantly Hindu country, if 3 Muslims can become the biggest iconic super stars that itself proves the majority aren’t intolerant.”

He also advised Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh not to complain about intolerance given their stardom. “Some celebs complaining about Intolerance should be the last ones to complain becos they became celebs in a so called intolerant country.” He even posted a quiz on twitter, asking people to vote on the subject. The quiz got over 4,000 votes in two hours and a whopping 86% taking the poll said that Aamir, SRK and Salman being the biggest superstars of the country is proof enough that India is tolerant.

The filmmaker said the intolerance comments were nothing more than a ploy to get eyeballs. “It’s the celebs need for creating drawing room debates to increase their popularity which flares up non existent negativity btwn communities,” he tweeted.

Before summing it up with a quotable quote, he suggested that if there’s a problem with the country, it should not be discussed publicly. “If u are really feeling like a family and there’s a problem in the family, family members in public wont say theres intolerance in the family. The fact is that the vast majority connect only to individuals deeds and generalised hard feelings are nothing but juvenile noises.”

And here are RGV’s final words of wisdom, “The problem with today’s times is that we are drowning in information and starving for wisdom.”

Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon took it to another level when she went on Twitter reacting to Aamir’s remarks. “Guess all those who did not want pm Modi to become PM,want 2 bring this govt down..sadly becoz of politics, they are shaming country ..Fringe elements were always there,1can always say thats condemnable, action needs to be taken against them, but to spread paranoia?not done,” she wrote.

The actor further cribbed why there were no complaints earlier: “Wonder why they didn’t feel fear when bombs ripped the heart of mumbai.. Or our security was breached #26/11-gosh!no point same argument. Let’s cut the BS-why can’t these people openly say that they weren’t happy since d day Modi became PM..instead of shaming the whole country. Really-have the guts to say it openly, instead of dragging the whole country’s image down,I don’t have a problem with any form of protest..But when it comes to respecting your nation and what it has done for you ?? Before that ask yourself.. What have you done for the nation?”

Slamming Aamir Khan’s statement that he felt like leaving India, Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted, “Mr.&Mrs. Amir Khan. When things are going wrong and the system needs correction, repair it,mend it.Don’t run away from it. That is Heroism!”
