Veteran actor Sadhana Shivdasani, who was most popular in the ’60s and the ’70s, breathed her last in a city hospital on December 25, after a long battle with cancer. The 74-year-old, who was known for her stellar performances in several films, was also a style icon, and played a major role in popularising fringes, which were referred to as the ‘Sadhna Cut’.
Talking about the actor, Prem Chopra, who worked with her in films like Woh Kaun Thi (1964) and Mera Saaya (1966), says, “I more or less started my career with Sadhana. She was this huge star. I was a newcomer. But she was always ready to help. She was very intelligent and loved to do a variety of roles. As an actor, I can understand what she must have gone through when her career got affected by her health problems. She was very passionate about acting. She was also hungry for knowledge, and would always be seen with a book in her hand.”
Making her debut in 1960 with Love In Simla, Sadhana made a mark for herself as an actor with her performances in films like Parakh (1960), Hum Dono (1961), Mere Mehboob (1963) and Waqt (1965), among others. However, her health issues multiplied over the past few years. In fact, last year, she had to undergo an emergency surgery to treat a bleeding oral lesion.
