Sushant meets Dhoni’s old friends from Kharagpur to prepare for movie
The actor spent time with MS Dhoni’s friends, who are ticket collectors in Kharagpur, to prepare for his next.
MS Dhoni is a star in the Indian cricketing world. But not many know that the Ranchi lad was a railway ticket collector before he became a cricketer. In fact, Sushant Singh Rajput, who plays Dhoni in an upcoming biopic, even spent some time with Dhoni’s friends, who are still ticket collectors, to prepare for his role.

“Before he started shooting for the film, Sushant spent a few weeks with three room-mates of Dhoni, who work as ticket collectors at Kharagpur Junction railway station. That is where Dhoni was posted before he took the cricketing world by storm,” says an insider.
Apparently, Sushant didn’t just interact with them. He also travelled with them in the trains incognito, and observed their body language and style of talking. “The actor also ditched the five-star hotels, and stayed with them at the railway quarters for all the days that he was there. He wanted to get a better idea of their lifestyle. He even played cricket on the same ground that Dhoni used to play on in the city,” adds the insider.

Interestingly, Dhoni’s friends are still in touch with Sushant. The Bollywood actor says, “Apart from preparing to play cricket like Dhoni, there was a different kind of effort that went into understanding his life before he became India’s Captain Cool. Three of his room-mates have been of phenomenal help to me. They let me stay in the same railway quarters as them, and also told me a lot of stories about Dhoni, which helped me make my performance more nuanced. I was extremely fascinated.”
