2 Eligibility: All Airtel customers aged between 18 and 54 years are eligible. It requires no paperwork or medical examination. There is a standard declaration by HDFC Life which you have to accept. If accepted, the insurer issues the policy.

3 Validity: The recharge is valid for 28 days and the policy cover is valid till the recharge is active.

4 How to enroll: You need to enroll for the insurance after the first recharge through SMS, the My Airtel app or a retailer. The insurance renews automatically with subsequent recharges.

5 Should you take it: “We seldom recommend such products as a life cover of ~4 lakh is not adequate. You will be bound to the network and the plan. However, if someone cannot afford a larger cover, say ~1 crore, where the premiums go up to ~10,000 to ~11,000 annually then probably they can look at this product,” said Suresh Sadagopan, founder, Ladder7 Financial Advisories.
