The Confederation of Export Units (CEU), the apex organisation of 100 per cent export-oriented units, has accused the government of deliberately killing this sector by going all-out in encouraging the special economic zones (SEZs).

“The government is completely neglecting us and we have started believing that that this sector is being killed by the government to encourage the various SEZ schemes. If this is the case, then the government must give us a dignified exit route so that we can wind up our operations and venture into some other business,” CEU President SK Saraf said.

According to Saraf, the government has turned a deaf ear to the basic needs of the export units and this sector was exempted from the relief package announced for exporters. “Like other exporters, we also suffered lot of losses due to the appreciating rupee in the last few months. Why were we discriminated? Saraf said. Besides, two recently announced circulars No 84 of Customs and 29 of Central Excise have sounded the death knell for this sector, he added.
