Maruti Suzuki WagonR Crosses 35 Lakh Sales; Only Two Cars Did It Before

The WagonR costs between 4.99 lakh and 6.95 lakh. It is offered with a petrol and CNG powertrain. Till now, 35 lakh units have been produced.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that the WagonR has just zoomed past the 35 lakh production milestone in India, becoming the third model after the Swift and Alto to do so. First launched in 1999, the WagonR has gone through three generational changes till now. Currently, the WagonR is available in over 75 countries and regions globally, including Japan, India, and Europe. In August 2025, the Suzuki WagonR surpassed total sales of 10 million units.

The WagonR made its debut in 1999, with a CNG option introduced in 2004. The second generation arrived in 2010, followed by the addition of a CNG variant later that year. In 2015, the model gained notable upgrades, including an AMT gearbox, dual airbags and ABS. Maruti Suzuki expanded the lineup in 2017 by introducing the VXi+ variant with added features. The third generation entered the market in 2019, and the WagonR received a minor facelift in 2022.

The WagonR is currently priced between 4.99 lakh and 6.95 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR specs

The WagonR is offered with two engine options. There is a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 67 PS of max power and 89 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

The same engine is also available with a CNG powertrain. While running on CNG, the power output falls to 57 PS and the torque is decreased to 82 Nm. It comes only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Finally, there is the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 90 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 113 Nm. It is also offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR features

The latest WagonR offers six airbags as standard and comes equipped with a range of advanced safety features, including ABS with EBD and an Electronic Stability Program. It also provides several comfort and convenience features such as a 17.78 cm SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands.
