IMD forecasts rain in Bengaluru till Thursday
Bengaluru city is set to see some showers till later this week as the cyclonic depression lets up in the Bay of Bengal. Read below for fresh forecasts.
Bengaluru saw some drizzles and light showers on Wednesday afternoon, with some parts getting slightly heavier rain as well. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain very likely for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. “Mist is also very likely during early morning hours in some areas,” it added.

Similarly, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) also predicted widespread moderate rain with isolated heavy rain likely over the BBMP area in Bengaluru. While most of its weather map for BBMP area limits was painted green, indicating moderate rainfall, some parts of the Dasarahalli and R R Nagara zones were in blue, which meant heavy rainfall was likely in those areas.
The centre also said widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain is likely over south interior Karnataka (SIK) districts and scattered to widespread very light to moderate rain is likely over north interior Karnataka (NIK) and Malnad districts and isolated very light to light rain is likely over districts in coastal Karnataka.
The KSNDMC in its daily report for Tuesday said rainfall distribution was “isolated” and monsoon activity was “weak” over the state. It listed two taluk's in Ballari district and one in Koppala district as having received the most rainfall on Tuesday across Karnataka.
These recent showers are due to a low-pressure area that has formed in the Bay of Bengal. News agency PTI reported that rain is expected in the Karnataka capital for a couple days more till the cyclonic system over the region weakens.
The agency quoted Geeta Agnihotri, the director of IMD Bengaluru as saying: “In the next 24 hours, there will be rains at isolated places in the state. Tomorrow, I am expecting rainfall to increase in south interior areas of Karnataka in 16 districts, starting from Ballari and Davangere to Chamarajanagar.”
