Tumakuru accident : PM Modi announces ₹2 lakh to the families of deceased
Early morning on Thursday, a tempo truck reportedly carrying 24 people rammed into a lorry at Shira in Tumakuru district.
Prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced ₹2 lakh compensation for the families of those killed in a road accident in Karnataka's Tumkuru. In addition, the injured will get ₹50,000 each, a statement from prime minister Modi's office said. The money will be disbursed from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
"Condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers with the injured. ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be paid ₹50,000," the PMO tweeted.
Early this morning a tempo truck reportedly carrying 24 people rammed into a lorry. The accident took place at Shira in Tumakuru district.
State home minister Araga Jnanendra said nine people were killed and 10 injured. He promised assistance to the families of those killed and injured.
He wrote "The road accident that took place near Shira in Tumkur today was a heartbreaking incident in which nine people died and 10 were seriously injured.... assistance will be provided..."
President Droupadi Murmu too expressed her condolences to the families of deceased. She wrote “The loss of lives, including that of children and women, in a road accident in Tumakuru, Karnakata is extremely unfortunate. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.(Sic)”
Police are investigating the accident.
