Bodies of father-son fished out of Karnal canal

The incident happened when both were in their fields spraying paddy crop and Manush went near the canal to fill the spray tank with water

Two days after a man and his son allegedly drowned in Batsali canal of Habri branch in Karnal’s Nissing area, the divers on Friday fished out their bodies.

Both were swept away by the strong current. (HT File)

The deceased were identified as Satnam Singh, 45, and his son Manush, 20, both residents of Bir Badalwa village in the district.

The incident happened when both were in their fields spraying paddy crop and Manush went near the canal to fill the spray tank with water.

He reportedly slipped and fell into the canal, seeing his son drowning, Satnam also jumped into the canal to save him.

Both were swept away by the strong current.

Their family said that besides helping his father with farming, Manush was also a daily wager.

Investigating officer ASI Vineet Kumar from Nissing police station said that after two days of searching, divers found their bodies, which were handed over to the family after autopsies.
