Burglars assault couple, decamp with cash, jewellery in Ludhiana

The complainant and his wife had just stepped into their house after paying obeisance at a temple when the accused barged into their house, assaulted them with sharp-edged weapons.

Unidentified burglars broke into a house in Machinewala Bazar on Sunday night.

The complainant, Krishan Kumar Singla, 50, said he and his wife had just stepped into their house after paying obeisance at a temple when the accused barged into their house, assaulted them with sharp-edged weapons, and gagged them with tape.

Holding the couple captive, the accused robbed them of diamond bangles, diamond rings and ₹1.5 lakh in cash. Later, when their nephew Sahil came home to visit the couple, he was shocked to find them injured and raised the alarm.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Major Singh said a case had been registered under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house), 323 ( voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged against the accused.

The accused have been captured in the CCTVs installed in the area. The police have been trying to trace the accused.
