Haryana govt gives in-principle nod to most demands for sanitation workers strike

The Haryana government on Saturday night gave in-principle approval to most of the demands put forth by striking sanitation workers and fire service employees.

The government is also prepared to ensure job security up to the age of 60 for these employees, a spokesperson said. (HT File)

A government spokesperson said the municipal employees’ union and the fire employees’ union have been informed that the government has agreed in principle to their demands such as uniform allowance of ₹440 per month to be paid along the salary, equal pay for equal work and arrears, LTC benefit, minimum wages, Employees’ State Insurance, Employees’ Provident Fund, risk allowance, compassionate assistance, accident insurance, promotion.

The spokesperson said the issue under discussion is the regularisation of sanitation workers and fire service employees working on municipal rolls on which the government is seeking legal opinion.

The spokesperson said the government is prepared to bring these employees under the ambit of the Haryana Contractual Employees (Service Security) Act, 2024 so they receive benefits at par with regular employees. The government is also prepared to ensure job security up to the age of 60 for these employees, the spokesperson said.
