The Ambala police on Thursday arrested a man for allegedly impersonating as an excise and police inspector to extort money from people.

Sub-inspector Balkar Singh, station in-charge, Mullana police station, said that a local man filed a complaint claiming that he had been threatened by the accused to pay him ₹50,000 in lieu of getting his name removed from a criminal case.
“The victim had already paid ₹40,000 to the accused before filing a complaint. A case was lodged, and the accused arrested. The accused also carried a police identity card that was recovered along with the money,” he added.
