Ludhiana: Man rapes 16-yr-old Instagram friend, booked

The accused took the 16-yr-old to an abundant plot and raped her; he had befriended the girl on Instagram two months ago

A man allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl, whom he had befriended on a social networking site, after taking her to an abandoned plot in the city, police said on Saturday.

The Daresi police lodged an FIR against the accused, identified as Gulam alias Aryan, on Friday night on the statement of the father of the victim.

The complainant said that his daughter was stressed for the past few days and narrated the whole incident to them when asked.

The girl said that she had come in contact with the accused two months ago on Instagram and became friends with him.

Police said that the accused had asked her to come to meet him on March 12 near Basti Jodhewal Chowk.

When she reached there, the accused took her to an abandoned plot and raped her. The accused also threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Assustabt sub-inspector, Santokh Singh, who is investigating the case, said that the victim has no knowledge about the residential address of the accused.

The police are taking help from the information and technology cell to trace the accused. An FIR under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been lodged against the accused.
